What is it?
Group therapy is a therapeutic session that occurs with one or more leaders/facilitators and more than two clients. Group sizes may vary based on the needs or dynamics of the group.
What’s it like?
Group therapy may be used for processing difficult experiences, emotions, or thought patterns. Group therapy settings can feel supportive and motivating for clients.A group setting can be especially beneficial for clients with a strong need to identify with other clients with similar problems/issues. Some clients are uncomfortable being in the ‘spotlight’ in individual therapy and find redress in a group setting.

Sometimes the hardest part of recovery is the immense feeling of isolation or being alone. Our group therapy sessions are designed to help individuals connect and communicate together, so they can meaningfully progress on their healing path. Group therapy can also ”allow clients to learn how to express their issues and accept criticism from others. Group therapy allows individuals to develop self-awareness by listening to others with similar issues” (americanaddictioncenters.org).
